Jon Hurst - Biography
Energy Efficiency & Sustainability, Fundraising for Cancer Research, Volunteer Work
Jon is a long-time Acton resident who has represented his community on Council since 2003. He was an early advocate for sustainable building design and construction, and the use of LEED standards (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) for the construction of Town buildings.
Early in his career Jon established his own company, providing commercial and industrial electrical services in Acton for many years. He later became a manager for an Acton leather finishing company.
Jon is currently a member of the:
- Arenas Steering Committee
- Citizen’s Cemetery Advisory Committee
- Corporate Affairs Committee
- Fire Services and Emergency Planning Committee
- Halton Hills Accessibility Advisory Committee
Jon is also Council’s liaison to the Board of Directors of the Acton Seniors Recreation Centre. He is also Council’s representative on the Board of Directors of Halton Healthcare Services (HHS), which represents the hospitals in Oakville, Milton and Georgetown. He is a member of the HHS Quality and Risk Management and Strategic Planning Committees. He also helps produce a weekly program on Cogeco where top news stories are read for those in the community who are visually impaired.
Jon is a founding member of the Paul Murr Memorial Golf Tournament Committee and a founding member and chair of the Acton Terry Fox Run Committee.
Jon believes in a hands-on approach to community service, and is pleased that he has the time to make a contribution to the Town of Halton Hills.
