    Voting LocationsNominations will be accepted for the offices of:

    • Mayor
    • Councillors (Local and Regional)
    • Trustees, Halton District School Board
    • Trustees, Halton Catholic District School Board
    • Trustee, Conseil scolaire Viamonde (Nomination forms to be filed with the City of Hamilton)
    • Trustee, Conseil scolaire de district catholique Centre-Sud
    • Regional Chair (Nomination forms to be filed with the Regional Municipality of Halton)

    Nominations, on the prescribed form, may be filed at the Town of Halton Hills Clerks Office, 1 Halton Hills Drive, Halton Hills, from January 2, 2014 to September 11, 2014, during regular business hours (Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.), and on Nomination Day September 12, 2014, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. The term of elected office will be from December 1, 2014, to November 30, 2018.

    Under Section 29(1) of the Municipal Elections Act, 1996 – “A person may be nominated for an office only if, as of the day the person is nominated

    a) he or she is qualified to hold that office under the Act that creates it; and
    b) he or she is not ineligible under this or any other Act or otherwise prohibited by law to be nominated for or to hold the office.”

    Nomination and the required Declaration of Qualification forms will be available in the Clerks Office or on the Town website on or before January 2, 2014. The following must be provided at the time of submission:

    • A completed nomination paper
    • A declaration of qualification by the candidate
    • The prescribed filing fee in cash, debit, certified cheque, or money order payable to the Town of Halton Hills, in the amount of $200 for the office of Mayor, or $100 for all other offices
    • Candidate identification (Driver’s Licence or other government issued photo identification)

    Nomination Period
    Nominations may be filed by candidates with the Clerk prior to Nomination Day at any time, Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. excluding statutory holidays, from Thursday, January 2, 2014 to Thursday, September 11, 2014.

    On Nomination Day (Friday, September 12, 2014), nominations may only be filed with the Clerk between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

    Campaign Period
    The campaign period begins on January 2, 2014 or when a candidate files his or her nomination paper, whichever is later, and ends on December 31, 2014 unless the candidate withdraws the nomination, the Clerk rejects the nomination or the candidate is continuing their campaign to erase a deficit.

    "Vote Anywhere” Advance Polls Voting Locations
    There are four advance voting locations.  Each location is a “vote anywhere” location which means that eligible voters can vote at any one of the locations.  Advance Polls will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 15 and Wednesday October 22; and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, October 18.

    Election Day – Monday, October 27, 2014
    On election day, all regular voting locations will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.  Each location is specific to your ward and your address.  Later this year, you’ll receive a Voter Notification Letter to tell you which location and poll you can vote at.  This is the poll that you must cast your ballot on if you choose to vote on election day.


    Special Voting Locations
    On election day special voting locations operate with reduced opening hours so that residents of the specific retirement home, nursing home or institution can cast their ballots.  These locations cannot be used by other voters.

    In accordance with the Municipal Elections Act, 1996, (the “Act”), the Town of Halton Hills has established a Joint Compliance Audit Committee, in partnership with Halton Region, the City of Burlington, the Town of Milton and the Town of Oakville.

    The purpose of this Committee is to review and respond to compliance audit applications from eligible electors who believe, on reasonable ground, that a candidate has contravened the Municipal Elections Act, 1996 (MEA) relating to election campaign finances.

    The Committee will be composed of five members, with membership drawn from the following groups:

    • Accounting and audit – accountants or auditors, preferably with experience in preparing or auditing the financial statements of municipal candidates;
    • Academic – college or university professors with expertise in political science or local government administration;
    • Legal; and
    • Other individuals with knowledge of the campaign financing provisions of the MEA.

    In order to be considered for appointment for this Committee, the application form must be submitted by Friday, July 25, 2014 at 4:30 p.m. to the Regional Clerk.  Submission instructions are included on the application form.
