Governments of all levels can play a role in climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Here in Halton Hills we have experienced the effects of climate change. We had the ice storm of 2013. Last year we had more snow and ice in the month of April compared to the traditional winter months. We also had more than usual extreme heat warnings where the temperature rises to 30c. This winter, we have already experiences three freezing rain events.
Your Council identified the development of local Climate Change Adaptation Plan as a priority project for the 2014-2018 Strategic Plan. You can read more by going to http://www.haltonhills.ca/initiatives/strat-plan.php.
Congratulations to our Halton Hills Public Library for receiving the Ministers Award for Innovation for its uniquely designed sustainable wooden library card. These cards are made from Nordic birch and are 100% PVC free. What better way to share our environmental dedication with our community than to incorporate it into the most important library tool that is used every day.
If you haven't already, please drop by the Helson Gallery to see the "Canadians in Chengdu" exhibit. These are pictures taken from Canadian missionaries and doctors who went to Chengdu China from 1892-1952. We have three separate family members living in Georgetown. Small world eh? The exhibit lasts until February 26th.
Monday, February 20 is Family Day and the Town's Recreation & Parks has a full day of fun family activities planned for you to enjoy at no cost! Please visit our website haltonhills.ca/familyday for further details.
Come by Town Hall to see the beautiful display of creative artwork by the Credit Valley Artisans.
Watch for the 2017 spring and summer Town Activity and Service Guide to be delivered Thursday, February 23. Guides will also be available at Town facilities and on the Town's website at www.haltonhills.ca/guide. Recreation & Parks' spring and summer program registration starts March 1, kicking off a fun and active season.
Special thanks to the Acton BIA, all the volunteers and sponsors of the Acton Winter Carnival. The weather wasn't fully cooperative but there were plenty of events to keep the families busy. Congrats to the Acton Firefighters winning the chili contest.
