It is amazing when a group of volunteers come up with an idea and run with it. The Chamber of Commerce, volunteers, sponsors, Councillor Ann Lawlor as well as the Town of Halton Hills drove the flag challenge. The Acton Tanner did a great job promoting and selling flags at a record pace. We should all be very proud of Halton Hills as we made history by all responding to the Most Patriotic Town Challenge. I saw flags on garages, fences, gardens, balconies and along driveways. This was such a proud moment for all of us Canadians as we celebrated Canada's 150th birthday. We have a population of 61,000 and we had 57,073 flags registered, so a BIG thank you everyone for showing your Canadian Pride.
Halton Hills was once again in the top 25 in Money Sense Magazine. This year we ranked 24 in as one of the best places to live in all of Canada.
The Town just launched a new online platform. It's a website that will feature various projects and initiatives and provide opportunities for the public to connect, offer an opinion or share a story. Called 'letstalkhaltonhills.ca', this is the place for online public engagement. I encourage you to visit the site, register and join the conversation.
We recently lost a valued staff member and I wanted to say a few words about him. Todd Cronkright was a long time employee with the Town of Halton Hills. He came to us in May 1991 as a Design Draftsman. Todd was an integral part of the team and in 1999 the Town received the Niagara Escarpment Commission Achievement Award for the design and construction of Ten Side Road from Regional Road 25 to Third Line. Todd was a great hire and successfully moved up the ranks to Supervisor, Design and Construction in 2008 and was later promoted to Manager, Design and Construction in 2013. An avid fisherman and golfer, Todd leaves behind his wife Sharon and son Michael. He will be sorely missed.
If you're looking for something to do during the summer or to entertain visiting family or friends, be sure to check out visthaltonhills.ca for a list of all the great local events and amenities that our community boasts. Speaking of the summer; why not cool down at one of our splash pads located at Dominion Seedhouse, Gellert Splash Pad in Georgetown and the Superior Glove Splash Pad in Acton.
A big thank you to all of the volunteers who made Canada Day a huge success in Acton and Glen Williams. Congratulations to Mark Rowe, named "Glen Williams 2017 Citizen of the Year".
