Municipalities in Ontario use Development Charges (DCs), Community Benefits Charges (CBC) and Parkland dedication provisions to recover certain costs associated with residential and non-residential growth.
Through these charges and provisions, companies building houses, subdivisions, shopping centres, industrial parks and other developments help the Town pay to construct additional infrastructure - things like roads and transportation infrastructure, recreation centres, parks, trails, fire facilities, and transit – in order to accommodate growth and to help build a complete community.
The Town estimates capital infrastructure and parkland needed to support anticipated population and employment growth in Halton Hills, and uses this information to update its DC by-law under the Ontario Development Charges Act (DCA) and CBC by-law and Parkland dedication by-law under the Planning Act (PA).
