Donation to Town Supports Next Phase for Field of Dreams

HALTON HILLS, ON – The Town’s Field of Dreams project is one step closer to being realized through a generous donation. At yesterday’s Council Meeting, members of the Georgetown Slo-Pitch League Executive presented Mayor Lawlor with a cheque for $50,000 for the second phase of the project.

“I am delighted to receive this cheque on behalf of the Town,” said Mayor Ann Lawlor. “And I want to thank the Georgetown Slo-Pitch League for their efforts and generosity in supporting upgrades to baseball facilities in our community. Our partnerships with local sports groups mean that programs and facilities are the best possible that can be offered in our small town. Slo-Pitch volunteers have certainly stepped up to the plate.”

Georgetown Slo-Pitch League, a non-profit organization, has been in existence since 1990 and over that time, has donated to many Town baseball-related initiatives. Projects that have benefitted from their contributions include: construction of the first ball diamond at Trafalgar Sports Park including lighting, dugout covers for diamonds at Gellert Community Park, and donations for general ball diamond improvements at various locations. 

Most recently the Georgetown Slo-Pitch League were part of a joint effort with Halton Hills Minor Baseball to raise funds for the 3 premium ball diamonds that opened at Trafalgar Sports Park in 2020 which are part of the Field of Dreams project. Their collaborative efforts raised more than $350,000 for the community. 

Pete Wanner, GSL founder and continuing Executive commented that: ”We are happy to once again, assist the Town in helping us provide baseball facilities to the players, both youth and adult. GSL and HHMBA are proving that the assumed disinterest in baseball is not a dog that hunts in Georgetown. We have some talented and some very talented ball players that should be nurtured with facilities that match their requirements to play and grow. We will always be an organization that supports local leagues and players.”

The recent donation will be used to construct the main washroom building at Trafalgar Sports Park later this year.
