Halton Hills Go Green Event to be held October 1

HALTON HILLS, ON – The Town of Halton Hills is hosting a Go Green event to raise awareness about climate change on a local level and encourage residents to take actions that support a low carbon community. Mark your calendars to attend on Saturday, October 1, 2022, 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Halton Hills Public Library and Cultural Centre, located at 9 Church Street, Georgetown.

Go Green Halton Hills is a free event offered in partnership with local businesses, environmental groups, Plug’n Drive, and the Halton Hills Public Library and Cultural Centre. 

“Come out and get inspired!” said Mayor Bonnette. “Learn about the actions that you can take to support a healthier environment through home improvements, lifestyle and moving about in the community. Through Town Council’s direction, staff have done an exceptional job in advancing our green agenda to support our climate emergency declaration of becoming a net-zero community by 2030. Now it’s the community’s turn to recognize the actions we can all take to reduce our impact on the environment.”

Go Green Halton Hills showcases a wide variety of positive climate actions, free activities, and resources including:

• Electric vehicle test drives offered by Plug’n Drive (valid drivers license required)
• EV owners available to answer questions about buying an electric vehicle
• Home retrofit and energy efficiency business representatives ready to chat
• Environmental groups that support climate-friendly and healthy activities such as walking, hiking, and cycling  
• A Town booth with information about sustainable transportation options such as ActiVan, Youth Taxi Script, cycling and walking trails
• A green tour of the Halton Hills Public Library and Cultural Centre to see its green features that reduce energy and water consumption including its green roof

Go Green Halton Hills is a one-day event being held during the Town’s month-long celebration of Culture Days that runs from September 23 to October 16.  Stop by the Culture Days booth for free interactive family activities and listen to the Georgetown Pipe Band who will play mid-morning.
