Mayor Asks Residents to ‘Keep it Local’

HALTON HILLS, ON – The Provincial government’s recent announcement about a 21-day pause has raised concerns amongst local businesses and particularly restaurants feeling the impact of reduced capacities and shutdowns. While the legislative direction is beyond the control of municipalities, Mayor Rick Bonnette says there is much that communities can do to help keep the local economy afloat.

“I am hearing from restaurants who have ordered supplies to prepare for indoor dining that are now deeply concerned as they will not only suffer lost revenue but may also have to discard unused food,” said the Mayor. “That’s why I am committed to ordering in from a local eatery a few times a week. I encourage families (for those who can afford it) to adopt a similar routine -- perhaps ‘Takeout Tuesdays’ -- so as to support our local eating establishments.”

Halton Hills has over 100 restaurants and many have pivoted their operations to provide curbside pick up or delivery options to customers. A list of food options can be found on the Town’s tourism website visithaltonhills.ca under the heading ‘sip and savour’.

The Town continues to implement an Economic Recovery and Resiliency Action Plan which includes both short-term actions to support immediate recovery efforts as well as investment growth actions to help sustain economic growth over the longer term. This involves collaboration with the Economic Support and Recovery Task Force to monitor and continue to respond to the evolving COVID situation and its impact on businesses.
