Our priority at the Town is to keep staff and residents safe as we continue to adapt to the ever-changing landscape of the Covid-19 pandemic.
I know we are all getting weary of the escalating Covid cases and cancellations as we look to the new year, but we need to remain vigilant and continue to pull together to help stop the spread of Omicron, the most contagious Covid variant to date.
The Town is working with our regional and provincial partners to provide updated information as quickly and effectively as possible as Covid protocols continue to evolve. I urge you to visit our website for regional and provincial COVID-19 updates and closures. You can also find information on vaccinations and testing, service closures and adjustments, and supports for residents and businesses on the website.
I know it has been difficult and stressful for you and your families over the last few years and I want to thank every one of you for your dedication to our community. It’s a different world today than what I have experienced over decades as your Mayor and Town business is conducted differently than in previous years. We’ve all had to adapt to constant change, and we have and for that I am thankful.
I am truly thankful for having the opportunity to be your Mayor going in to my 19th year. In case you have not heard, I announced on December 14 that I will not be seeking re-election. It will be 40 years this fall that I have served on Council. Prior to be being elected to Mayor in 2003 I was a Regional and Local Councillor since 1982.
It has been a privilege and an honour to serve this wonderful Town as your Mayor for this long. I am truly humbled by it.
Lastly, Halton Hills lost two giants in the past month. Graeme Goebelle and Julian Reed. Graeme made several contributions to our Town over the years, in particular to our Georgetown Hospital. Julian Reed served 10 years as MPP and later another 10 years as our MP. On behalf of Council, my condolences go out to both families and friends.
