A huge thank you to our volunteers who made Canada Day so special. After not having a celebration in three years it was so nice to see people in person celebrating Canada Day.
Glen Williams during the daytime is the hub of activity. After a full morning of activities there is the traditional noon hour parade followed by the opening ceremonies. This year we congratulated three Citizens of the Year going back to 2020 Susan Powell, 2021 Sue Winser, and this year Gerry Cunningham. This is followed up with the cake cutting and of course, the duck race.
The evening then moved to Prospect Park where the Acton BIA had vendors and cupcakes were handed out. This was followed up by the spectacular fireworks display by the Acton Fire Fighters Association. This was their 50th anniversary of putting on the fireworks.
Canada Day celebrations could never take place without countless volunteers making it happen so that thousands (many children) can enjoy.
I also had the pleasure to attend the Georgetown Citizen of the Year dinner honouring Glen MacDonald, as well as the Halton Hills Sports Museum Induction Celebration. Congratulations to Sandy Chapman, Barbara Montemurro, Chris Sargent and the Georgetown District High School Swim Team. All of the recipients inspire so many in our community. Again, it’s the volunteers that make our slogan “Small Town Living at its Best” a reality.
If you haven’t heard it by now, there is great news for North Halton. There is a group of very dedicated volunteers who have been working tirelessly in search of land for a much-needed hospice. Through the generosity of the community the Townsend Smith Foundation has secured a land agreement here in Halton Hills.
If you want to find out more information or would like to make a donation, contact the Townsend Smith Foundation via email or call 289-878-3407.
Remember to support your local farmers markets this summer and circle your calendar for August 14th for the Leathertown Festival in Acton.
