HALTON HILLS, ON – The Helson Gallery shines a spotlight on historical artist Carrie L. Hillyard in a new exhibition: A Forgotten Journey on view from January 18 – April 16. This retrospective exhibition explores the life of Canadian artist Carrie L. Hillyard (1866 – 1952) through her drawings and paintings. Hillyard was a skilled artist trained in both Canada and the United States and was well acquainted with most of Ontario’s prominent artists at the turn of the century and through the Edwardian Era. Despite this, she has been forgotten from Canada’s artistic record.
This collection is on loan from a private collector who has done extensive research into the artist’s life and art. Visit the Helson Gallery to learn about this artist and see why she deserves to be recognized for her artistic talent and body of work. All are welcome to attend the opening reception for the show on January 22 from 2 – 3 p.m.
“I’m thrilled to see this overlooked female artist finally be given the recognition she deserves by the Helson Gallery,” said Mayor Lawlor. “This is a great opportunity to correct the historic record and to learn more about Canadian art history.”
The Helson Gallery is located at 9 Church St., Halton Hills and is open Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Fridays and Sundays from 1 – 5 p.m.
