HALTON HILLS, ON – On June 21 the Helson Gallery officially opens the sixth annual Emancipation Art Exhibition, in partnership with the Halton Black History Awareness Society. The exhibition explores and celebrates freedom through the perspectives of Black artists.
Artworks that best reflect and articulate the Black Experience have been selected for awards through a juried process and will be announced at the end of June. The exhibition features over 20 artists exhibiting in a variety of mediums, and is on view in the Helson Gallery and the Sisnett Lobby of the Cultural Centre until August 27, 2023.
"This art exhibition in partnership with the Halton Black History Awareness Society is a wonderful way to recognize the 189th year of emancipation,” said Mayor Lawlor. “I’m proud that the Helson Gallery features such meaningful artworks for the community,” she continued.
The Helson Gallery is located at 9 Church St., Halton Hills and is open Wednesday to Saturday 9:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 – 5 p.m. It is closed Sundays in July and August.
