HALTON HILLS, ON – The Town of Halton Hills celebrates its new foray into public transit through a partnership with the Town of Milton. The initiative is a Milton Transit bus route travelling along Steeles Avenue into Halton Hills, from the Milton GO Station to the Lisgar GO Station in Mississauga.
“This partnership has been a long time coming,” said Halton Hills Mayor Rick Bonnette. “While we have had ActiVan to serve seniors and persons with disabilities, it has long been a priority of Council to see local transit buses in our community.” Adding, “Transit service is a necessary infrastructure to support our businesses along the Steeles Avenue corridor by making it more accessible and attractive for workers locally and in the adjacent municipalities.”
The route will see Milton buses serve 15 stops in Halton Hills, six days a week at forty-five-minute intervals. This first local transit route is part of the Halton Hills Transit Service Strategy, approved by Council in 2019.
The collaboration between the municipalities was realized with the shared intent to service the needs of both communities. "The Town is pleased to announce this new transit partnership with Halton Hills that supports businesses along the Steeles Avenue corridor,” said Tony D’Alessandro, Director, Transit Services, Town of Milton. “Milton Transit is committed to meeting the needs of the community and being both a reliable and accessible option to get you where you need to go. This milestone transit connection truly makes Milton A Place of Possibility.”
