HALTON HILLS, ON – This past Saturday saw friends, family and members of past and current Council gather to recognize former Halton Hills Councillor Moya Johnson. In recognition of her service and accomplishments, the Moya Johnson Parkette, located at 14 Mill Street in Georgetown, was officially named in her honour.
Moya’s recognition comes well deserved after serving the community of Ward 3 for 28 years, championing health and safety, the library, diversity, and accessibility, amongst many other initiatives. Her dedication to public service has had a lasting impact on the community that continues even today.
Mayor Ann Lawlor, members of Council and the Johnson family shared in the joyful and celebratory dedication as community members of all ages enjoyed light refreshments and lawn games.
“Moya was a colleague and a friend and we miss her at the Council table,” said the Mayor. “I am glad that we were able to start this project in the last term of council and share with Moya that her spirit and legacy would live on through the naming of the Moya Johnson Parkette.”
Residents are encouraged to enjoy the parkette amenities which include a playground, a range of seating options for people to lounge and socialize, and native plants that are firefly, bird, and butterfly friendly.
