HALTON HILLS, ON – On Sunday, local MPP Ted Arnott joined Mayor Ann Lawlor and Town of Halton Hills Council Members to celebrate a $305,000 Community Building Fund – Capital stream grant they received from the Government of Ontario through the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF). This significant grant funded 80% of the project costs associated with the Acton Arena and Community Centre HVAC replacement projects. These crucial projects replaced aging infrastructure and ensured the seamless operation of the rink facility and community halls.
"We want to thank the Ontario Trillium Foundation for its generous support of the needed HVAC upgrades at the Acton Arena," said Ted Arnott, MPP for Wellington—Halton Hills. "Improving energy efficiency is important and the Town of Halton Hills deserves credit for managing and maintaining outstanding recreational facilities in our communities."
In pursuit of its commitment to attain net zero carbon emissions within its facilities, the Town has successfully implemented a strategic replacement initiative. This involved incorporating heat recovery processes and electric energy to replace outdated natural gas-powered equipment. The primary aim was to safeguard the ongoing functionality of a crucial community asset, supporting the various programs and services offered at the Acton Arena and Community Centre.
“The HVAC replacement projects at the Acton Arena and Community Centre solidify our commitment to achieving greater energy efficiency,” said Mayor Ann Lawlor. “This aligns with our environmental goals and reduces our operational costs.”
“Non-profit organizations across Ontario deliver programming that makes a difference,” said Neil Lumsden, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport. “That’s why funding that my ministry is providing through OTF is so important. Our government wants to ensure that these programs and spaces remain the heart of communities across our province.”
The Ontario Trillium Foundation’s (OTF) mission is to build healthy and vibrant communities across Ontario. As an agency of the Government of Ontario, and one of Canada’s leading granting foundations, last year, OTF invested over $110M into 1,022 community projects and partnerships.
