The Roxy Centre Receives Community Improvement Grant

HALTON HILLS, ON – On November 27, The Roxy Centre, a versatile and community-centric facility designed to enrich the lives of Acton residents, was first recipient of the Building and Property Renovation Program under the Town’s Community Improvement Plan. The project was completed this fall and represents a pivotal phase in repurposing the facility as The Roxy Centre, catering to diverse community groups, facility rentals, co-working initiatives, and kitchen rentals.

Mayor Ann Lawlor and Ward 1 Councillors Somerville, Albano and Hilson, along with Town of Halton Hills Economic Department & Innovation staff, presented a cheque for $29,057.50 to Payge Lucas, The Roxy Centre Director, and the centre’s board members Shannon Furzer and Ryan Green.

“I am so pleased to see this investment in downtown Acton,” said Mayor Ann Lawlor. “Protecting and improving building infrastructure is quite literally, the foundation for ensuring safe spaces for community to gather. Congratulations on these critical improvements.”

The allocation of the Building and Property Renovation Grant facilitated the roof replacement, necessary to ensure optimal insulation and protection against the elements. This critical enhancement not only safeguards the integrity of the structure but also bolsters the ongoing efforts to further develop the space.

In addition to the roof replacement, The Roxy Centre made additional improvements including ceiling repairs, office renovations, HVAC upgrades, and internet infrastructure enhancements, made possible through a collaborative effort involving donations, volunteer contributions, and external funding sources. These comprehensive renovations serve to fortify The Roxy Centre as an all-encompassing, people-centric environment dedicated to delivering value and fostering connections in the Acton community.

The Community Improvement Program offers grants and loans to eligible businesses and organizations, encouraging revitalization, attracting private sector investment, expediting redevelopment of underutilized properties, and bolstering local job opportunities.
