HALTON HILLS, ON – The Hungry Hollow Trail network is now complete. The 7 km trail network allows residents to walk from downtown Georgetown to Hall Road through diverse natural areas that include native forests to a boardwalk through sensitive wetland areas and bridge river crossings. It connects neighbourhoods and parks, encouraging barrier free access to nature and active living opportunities.
The final phase of the trail between Cedarvale Park and Main Street South was finished earlier this month, completing the phased network that began in 2007 based on the Hungry Hollow Management Plan (2004) and supported by the Active Transportation Masterplan. A total investment of $2.8 million was made by the Town over 12+ years to construct the trail. Design and construction project management was all carried out by Town staff and approvals obtained through Credit Valley Conservation and the Ministry of Environment Conservation & Parks.
“I am so happy to see the completion of this trail network,” said Mayor Ann Lawlor. “I know that this initiative has been a long time coming to fruition and is extremely important to residents. Trails have consistently ranked near the top as to why residents love Halton Hills.”
The trail balances public recreation use and preservation of the environment.
The completion of the Hungry Hollow trail adds to the over 30 km of trails in Halton Hills. A trail celebration will be planned for the spring. For more information on local trails visit haltonhills.ca/trails
