Back to SearchHALTON HILLS, ON – The Town of Halton Hills launched the Retrofit Halton Hills (RetrofitHH) pilot program today. As part of the program, the Town will provide interest-free loans to fund retrofit projects that help homeowners save on energy costs and improve the comfort and safety of their homes while reducing their impact on the environment. Homeowners approved for the pilot can use the funding to pay for measures such as air sealing, insulation improvements, new heating equipment, solar panels, and more.
The RetrofitHH pilot program will help up to 20 homeowners implement home energy retrofits. Residents would pay back the loans through their tax bills under the Local Improvement Charges Program which stipulates that loan payments are the responsibility of the property owner, regardless if the property changes hands.
The RetrofitHH pilot will help the Town evaluate the interest, required structure and process for future widespread adoption by homeowners and local contractors.
“The Retrofit Halton Hills pilot program is a key component of the Town’s Low Carbon Transition Strategy,” said Halton Hills Mayor Rick Bonnette. “Not only will it support the Town’s 2019 Climate Emergency Declaration, the pilot will also help us deliver a retrofit program that enables all homeowners to become a part of the climate change solution.”
The Town is one of just nine municipalities across Canada that was awarded funding through the CEF home energy retrofit financing program to help deliver energy efficient financing programs for low-rise residential properties. Funded by the Government of Canada and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, the program raises awareness of greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs) in the residential sector and encourages homeowners to implement home energy retrofits.
