HALTON HILLS, ON – The Town of Halton Hills is committed to developing meaningful relationships with Indigenous Nations and peoples and working collaboratively on consultation and engagement opportunities for protocols, projects and education. The Town is aware that erroneous information is circulating in the community concerning an unmarked Indigenous burial site in Glen Williams.
The Town is not the landowner of the site. Local knowledge suggests that the remains were repatriated to the appropriate nation and reinterred around the Kleinberg area, however staff have been unable to find a source to confirm this information. The Town has no other knowledge on this issue and respects the provincial jurisdiction of the Ministry of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries who is responsible for managing archeological resources.
The Town of Halton Hills, with a population of approximately 60,000, consists of two urban centres, Georgetown and Acton, the Halton Hills Premier Gateway employment area, three hamlets – Glen Williams, Stewarttown and Norval – and several smaller settlements. Halton Hills has long been recognized for its natural beauty, active agricultural community, high quality of life and proximity to major centres, including Brampton, Mississauga and Toronto. The Town is ranked as one of the top small communities in Canada by a national magazine.
