The Town of Halton Hills Official Plan was adopted by Town Council in September 2006, approved by Halton Region in March 2008, and was last consolidated on April 30, 2024. The December 31, 2020, to April 30, 2024 consolidation of the Official Plan consolidates Official Plan Amendment Nos. 15, 16, 30, 31A, 31B, 32, 37, 42, 43, 45, 46, 47, 48, 49, 51, 52, 53, 55, and 56. The Official Plan sets out the Town's policies for growth and development through to 2031, and applies to all lands within the Town.

Any municipally-initiated Official Plan Amendments that have been proposed or brought into effect after December 30, 2020 are listed below:
Official Plan Amendment No. 15 |
To introduce specific policy and land use regulations pertaining to asphalt plants, concrete batching plants, and aggregate transfer stations in the Town. |
Official Plan Amendment No. 16 |
To re-designate two properties formerly licensed under the Mineral Resources Act for aggregate extraction to a more appropriate land use designation that recognizes that the properties are no longer licensed. |
Official Plan Amendment No. 30 |
To designate up to 75 ha of additional land for employment uses to be added to the Town’s Urban Area adjacent to the Phase 1B Premier Gateway Employment Area. These lands are being added to replace the shortfall of employment lands within the Town to the 2021 planning horizon, as a result of lands being lost to corridor protection for the Northwest Greater Toronto Area Corridor Identification Study/Halton-Peel Boundary Area Transportation Study (NWGTA/HPBATS). |
Official Plan Amendment No 31A |
To establish a Secondary Plan for the southern portion of the Premier Gateway Phase 1B Employment lands with appropriate land use designations and policies to facilitate the development of these lands for employment purposes. |
Official Plan Amendment No 31B |
To establish a Secondary Plan for the northern portion of the Premier Gateway Phase 1B Employment lands with appropriate land use designations and policies to facilitate the development of these lands for employment purposes. |
Official Plan Amendment No 32 |
To establish a Secondary Plan for Vision Georgetown Lands located North of Tenth Side Road, between Trafalgar Road and Eighth Line, with appropriate land use designations and policies to facilitate the development of these lands purposes. |

To establish a Secondary Plan Downtown Georgetown with appropriate land use designations and policies for these lands. |
Official Plan Amendment No 45 |
To facilitate the development of a 14 unit low-rise apartment building with a height of 4 storeys on the lands municipally known as 17 Guelph Street (“subject lands”) within the Georgetown Urban Area of the Town of Halton Hills. |
Official Plan Amendment No 46 |
To include policies in the Town of Halton Hills Official Plan that enable Council to delegate the authority to pass Holding Removal By-laws, Temporary Use By-laws and minor Zoning By-law Amendments, to an individual who is an officer or employee of the Town (i.e., Commissioner of Planning & Development or designate). |
Official Plan Amendment No 49 |
To modify the text of the Town of Halton Hills Official Plan pertaining to Site Plan Control, complete application and pre-consultation requirements to implement changes that have been made to the Planning Act resulting from Bill 109, More Homes for Everyone Act, 2022. |
Official Plan Amendment No 55 |
To permit alternative measures for public consultation with respect to Planning Act applications. |
When a development application is submitted to the Town that does not comply with the Town's Official Plan, a privately-initiated Official Plan Amendment (OPA) is required. Please note that if a development application does not comply with the Town's Zoning By-law, a privately-initiated Zoning By-law Amendment will also be required. In accordance with the Planning Act, all Official Plan Amendments are subject to a Statutory Public Meeting, prior to Council adoption of the OPA. Town of Halton Hills Council, must approve all Official Plan Amendments. If an OPA is appealed, it must be approved by the Ontario Land Tribunal.
