The Town of Halton Hills has completed the development of their first Active Transportation Master Plan (ATMP) to encourage residents and visitors to walk, bike, hike and become more active as they live, work and play throughout the Town.
In November 2018, the Town of Halton Hills embarked on a comprehensive review of their active transportation (AT) related policies and plans with the intent of developing one central source for self-propelled transportation planning, design and implementation direction in the form of an on and off-road active transportation master plan (ATMP).
The ATMP caries the momentum of existing master plans including the foundational cycling master plan and trails strategy. It also reflects the significant growth that the Town has and will continue to experience which requires complete, healthy and active community planning for people of all ages and abilities.
The plan will:
Identify a system of AT routes and facilities;
Accommodate vulnerable road users with comfort and safety in mind;
Strengthen the Town's integrated transportation system to achieve the benefits of different types of travel;
Accommodate varying trip types by linking key destinations such as schools, community centres and future mobility hubs;
Address barriers to active transportation such as trucking routes, topography, missing links, environmental features, etc.; and
Accommodate growing population areas to provide opportunities for active recreation.
