Excavation and Entrance Permits apply to sites that need access or site works in the Town of Halton Hills Right-of-Ways.
Please complete Construction/Excavation on Public Highways permit application. You need to pay a permit cost and a security deposit based on the scope of work. Please view Transportation and Public Works User Fees. All works are at the Owner’s expense.
You may need to provide Liability Insurance in the amount of $5,000,000. Please complete Certificate of Insurance form.

By-law No. 2018-0028 – Construction, Installation, Widening or Altering of Driveways and Curb Cuts
By-law No. 2006-0054 – Regulate the crossing of curbs, sidewalks or paved boulevards by vehicles
Required for the following two reasons:
Excavation
Also known as a “Road Cut”.
Required for any works done in the road allowance within the Town of Halton Hills.
Examples:
Connection of private services to public services i.e. storm, wastewater, and water, as well as utilities.
Altering the surface of a sidewalk, street, or boulevard.
Occupying the road allowance
Sometimes referred to as a “Construction Permit” in other municipalities.
Required for construction or any works with the Town of Halton Hills road allowance or Town-owned lands.
Required for any works that could alter the road surfaces, sidewalk or boulevard.
Examples:
Occupying the road allowance
Renting a bin
Putting a crane on Town property
For any entrance work done within a road allowance you need an Entrance Permit for the following reasons:
New entrances
Changes to existing entrances
Examples:
Expanding driveway widths (in road allowance)
Expanding depressed curb widths
Expanding culverts
Upon completion of the work you need to notify the Transportation and Public Works department. In some cases Zoning By-laws and Engineering Standards may restrict entrance locations.

3. What is an Entrance Permit?
An Entrance Permit is required for new entrances or changes to existing entrances (i.e., expanding the widths, curb cuts). There is a permit cost, and all works are at the owner's expense.
