The Vision Georgetown Secondary Plan, creates a new land use planning framework for a 404 ha (1,000 ac) area bounded by Trafalgar Road to the west, 15 Side Road to the north, 8th Line to the east, and 10 Side Road to the south. For more information please see a map of the study area.

In a January 19, 2024, decision by the Ontario Land Tribunal a modified version of the Vision Georgetown Secondary Plan was finalized.

There are two main components of the Vision Georgetown planning project:
A land use planning study (known as a secondary plan); and,
A subwatershed study which deals with all aspects of the natural environment.
On July 9, 2018, Council for the Town of Halton Hills adopted by by-law, Official Plan Amendment No. 32, regarding the Vision Georgetown Secondary Plan. The Notice of Adoption was provided on July 19, 2018.

On September 25, 2020, the Region of Halton had released its Notice of Decision approving the Vision Georgetown Secondary Plan with modifications. The last day to file appeals with the Region was on October 15. Six appeals were filed with the Region. A hearing date with the Local Planning Appeal Tribunal (LPAT) has not yet been set.
