Halton Hills is implementing its Low-Carbon Transition Strategy which is a guiding pathway to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Collecting solar energy is recognized in the Strategy as one way of contributing to a healthy environment. Consider adding solar panels to your home, or business.
Solar panels, sometimes referred to as photovoltaic cells, are used to collect solar energy, which is a renewable resource. They are available in a variety of sizes to accommodate a range of uses, including reducing domestic energy use, supplying extra electricity to the grid, and recharging electric vehicles. Banks of batteries are commonly referred to as power walls, can be used to store the energy generated by solar panels for later use.
Since 2020, the Town has approved 52 new solar projects in Halton Hills. To learn more about required permits for solar installations email Building Services.
Financial incentives are available in Ontario for installing solar panels. For more information visit Canada Greener Homes.

A rural resident of Halton Hills’ said that she bought the PV solar system because it makes so much sense to generate emission-free electricity by harnessing the sun's energy. She is very happy with her system because it is good quality and working well. The energy generation varies due to the changing daylight hours, and, of course, sunshine hours. The solar panels need to be free of ice and snow. Year of Installation: 2009 Location: barn roof Size: 9.5 KW solar grid-tie system. Financial rebate: PST refund Energy Generation: best month was June 2016 when it generated 1,664 KW, best year was in 2012 when it generated 11,553 KW.
