Graffiti vandalism includes etching, painting or marks placed on public or private property. Graffiti is NOT a sign or mural that has been authorized by the Town and/or approved by the property owner.
According to the Town’s By-law 2008-0137 Property Standards, all private property, including buildings, fences, and other objects shall be kept clean of graffiti at all times. After removal, affected surfaces should be restored to their original finish.

Removal |
If your property is listed on the Town's Heritage Register or designated under the Ontario Heritage Act, removing graffiti can be a delicate task. Contact Heritage Planning Staff to confirm the correct methodology that should be used. It can be difficult and frustrating to remove graffiti vandalism from your property. Addressing it quickly (within 24 – 72 hours) will make it easier to remove and less likely to reoccur. Usually, graffiti can be removed with a cleaning agent and some patience. Consider the surface the graffiti is on. Masonry surfaces are the most porous, while painted metal/vinyl surfaces are the least.
There are a variety of removal products that can be used on their own or with a power washer. Research the product to ensure that it is suitable for the intended application. You do not want to cause damage to the structure, the environment or yourself. |
